Classical Conversations Mock Trial

Seven area Classical Conversations Challenge B homeschool classes (13-15 year old students) are holding a Mock Trial competition at the Wendell Courthouse and Colonial Baptist Church on April 29, 30, and May 2, 2013.

We would love to have adults and high school or college students with law, Mock Trial, or debate/speech backgrounds and experience participate in the competition as jurors. Judges for our competition should be currently serving as judges or be practicing lawyers. Specific details about the competitions are below.

If you are interested in serving or finding out more, please contact Rebecca Carter at rebecca@3carters.com. Thank you!

Mock Trial Competition – Volunteer Jurors and Judges Needed!

What: Each mock trial session will have at least 3 jurors to hear the cases. Jurors will not be asked to render a verdict but will be asked to evaluate the performances of the students participating. Jurors will receive training and will have evaluation sheets to complete. Jurors will rate participants on a 1-5 scale and will also add comments to the evaluation sheet.

Judges will also not be required to render a verdict but may do so if they wish. Judges will evaluate the teams, assessing points and writing comments on the evaluation sheet.

His Story

His-Story Co-Op meets twice a month on Friday afternoons at Colonial Baptist Church. We are a history based co-op utilizing Tapestry of Grace curriculum. For the 2013-2014 year, we will have openings for students from 4th grade through high school (Upper Grammar, Dialectic, & Rhetoric.)

His-Story Co-Op provides an enriching experience. Academic work is completed at home and students arrive prepared to engage in oral presentations, Socratic discussion, and hands-on history activities. Additionally, we schedule field trips, undertake service projects, and celebrate end of units together. Every family actively serves by facilitating classes and organizing activities.

His-Story Co-Op has been in existence for four years. In September, we will be entering our fifth year and cycling back to Tapestry of Grace Year One: The History of Redemption. This year covers events from Creation to the fall of Rome. To schedule an informational meeting with one of our members, contact Kymberly Arana at gfarana@msn.com. Please include your phone number, the age and gender of your students, and your experience with Tapestry of Grace curriculum.

We look forward to hearing from you!
