What is Speak Out North Carolina?

Speak Out North Carolina (Speak Out NC, or the Club) is a Christian Speech club for home-schooled students. We support the mission of the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA), which states that formal speech and debate can provide a means for homeschooled students to learn and exercise analytical and oratorical skills, addressing life issues from a Biblical worldview in a manner that glorifies God.  As part of the NCFCA, we belong to Region 9, which includes clubs from Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia.

SpeakOut NC consists of a “main club” (or “regular club”) for students ages 12-18 by January 1st of the school year in which they are participating.  SpeakOut also hosts a Jr. Club for SIBLINGS ONLY of students in the main club.  Jr. Club is for siblings ages 6-11 by January 1st of their participating school year.   

 

Mission Statement

The mission of Speak Out NC is to facilitate the training necessary to raise up the next generation of Godly leaders who demonstrate Christ-like love manifested through a servant’s heart.

 Leadership Team

The Leadership Team consists of parent volunteers serving as leaders in the following positions: Administrative Team, Financial Officer, Communications Director, Event Coordinator, and  Facility Administrator.  The Head Coaches are parent volunteers who have been trained in the different aspects of Speech and Debate, and who then further mentor and train the Assistant Coaches.

Club Goals:  Learning to Become More Like Christ

• Apply skills needed to think logically, to research, to organize information, and to persuasively and humbly present and defend ideas.

“Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” ~ 1 Peter 3:15

• Examine and apply the elements of debate format and theory in a manner which is logically defensible, truthful, and gracious.

“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” ~ Colossians 4:6

• Acquire and apply the skills necessary to become good listeners.

“Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.” ~ Philippians 2:3

• Improve ability to work together with others in a team effort in a manner that is God-honoring and worthy of respect.

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31

• Improve critical thinking skills, including the ability to recognize the assumptions which support others’ beliefs and behaviors.

“Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them.” ~ Deuteronomy 11:16

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” ~ Romans 12:18
